At one time I would have considered myself to be very healthy and fit with only an allergy to whey in milk which I developed when I was a young baby. As a teenager, I swam often (sometimes 3 times a day), walked miles with my dog, and lead a healthy lifestyle, eating well, or the most, I was slim, then in my late teens I started to put on weight, around the same time I would faint now and again. I developed a problem with the chlorine used to keep the water in the swimming pool clean and ended up with an itchy skin rash every time I went swimming.
My skin continued to be a problem through the years. After years of suffering with painful itchy redness to my face, in my mid-20's I was diagnosed with Acne-Rosacea which usually affects people in their 40-60's... This has been an ongoing issue for me and I have found that some foods definitely make my condition worse, I don't drink red wine, I avoid spicy foods, and eat a plain diet as much as possible, although I think it is probably still too bread based.
I have always loved walking. But weight issues had become a problem. Then after we were married we wanted to have a baby and after my 4th miscarriage, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. My 5th pregnancy resulted in a ruptured ectopic, emergency surgery and a diagnosis of poly cystic ovary syndrome. I continued to have 3 more miscarriages before I called a halt to trying to have children and a family of our own.
The gestational diabetes never went away and I was diagnosed with full blown diabetes at the age of 35. Initially, I was on metformin to help with the PCOS, and tried to control my diabetes through diet. Then I was also put onto medication for cholesterol and high blood pressure, and as my diabetes continued to get worse, finally two types of insulin, 4 injections a day.
I have tried many different diets, vegan, green vegetables, etc, some have helped but been too restrictive to be able to continue on.
I continue to keep trying to improve both my health and my weight and this is going to be part of the subject of this blog.
